Course: Sauces, Side dishes
Cuisine: Asian
Keyword: sweet chili sauce
Servings: 2 cups

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • ¼ cup vinegar
  • 1 tbsp red pepper flakes
  • 1 tbsp smoked paprika
  • 2 tbsps soy sauce
  • 2 tbsps minced garlic

Corn Starch Slurry

  • 3 tbsps cornstarch
  • 3 tbsps water

Instructions

  • Start by making a simple syrup by boiling water and sugar. Once the water is clear and the sugar is dissolved, add the vinegar, red pepper flakes, paprika, and soy sauce. Mix until well combined, then add the garlic.
  • Let the mixture simmer for 3 to 5 minutes, until the mixture thickens slightly.
  • Whisk together the water and cornstarch to create a slurry, then gradually add it to thicken the sauce. Continue to simmer the sauce for an additional 2 to 5 minutes, stirring frequently, until the desired thickness is achieved.
  • Cool completely before storing in a sealed container in the fridge.

Notes

Storage: Store the sweet chili sauce in a sealed container in the fridge for 1-4 weeks. You can also freeze in a freezer safe container for up to 3 months. If you freeze, I recommend heating the sauce on the stovetop or in the microwave to return to its original texture.
