My Surf & Turf TikTok video went so viral last beat, that even snoop Dogg posted it on his Instagram page! So, safe to say, I am the Surf N Turf Expert. Plus, Steakhouses are over-priced and outdated and I’ve always been a fan of intimate moments and cooking decadent dishes at home is a top tier experience.
I cannot stress enough how important it is to get excellent ingredients for this recipe! If you’re pouring your heart and soul into making a meal like this, make sure you get high-quality ingredients and you’re making it for a high-quality person!

Tips for making the perfect Steak:
- Use high quality ingredients– This is the time to invest. If possible, get an excellent cut of steak. I reccommend NY Strip, sirloin bone in or even T-bone or powerhouse. You want a nice high quality steak to soak in the flavor. Additionally, using a good salted butter is necessary, I recommend Kerigold butter because its rich in flavor!
- Use the proper cooking equipment- I highly recommend a cast iron skillet for this recipe. Actually, I insist. Not only is a cast iron skillet a evergreen kitchen staple, it creates the perfect sear on the steaks making the Surf N Turf restaurant quality.
- High Heat- Getting a nice sear on the steak is half of this recipe. Not only do you want amazing flavor, you want a piece of meat that says- “DAMN”.! Don’t shy away from the heat in this recipe, its your friend!
- Take your time– This is a recipe that requires finesse, if you follow the instructions carefully you’ll have an amazing meal and, you’ll become a better home cook almost immediately. Cook the steaks to your liking by using a thermometer to test the level of doneness. For me, medium rare is perfect!
Surf & Turf
Ingredients
- 2 lbs premium steak New York Strip, Bone in Ribeye, Filet Mignon
- 1/2 lb jumbo shrimp peeled and deveined
- 4 tbsps butter salted
- 1 tbsps oil avocado or high heat oil is better
- 1 tbsp salt
- 1 tsp pepper
- 5 cloves of garlic
- 2 sprig of rosemary
Instructions
- Allow steaks to rest at room temperature for 20 minutes. While steaks are resting, make your cajun compound butter.
- Season steak with salt and pepper. Let it rest.
- Add 2 tbsp of compound butter to a piping hot pan, preferably a cast iron skillet.
- Sear Steak for 2 minutes, and flip. Your steak should be be beautifully seared.
- Add additional 2 tbsp of compound butter, garlic and rosemary, and bask the excess butter over the steak with a spoon. Keep basking continously for 3-5 minutes.
- *optional step* Remove from pan and finish cooking in the oven at 375 degrees until the level of doneness required. If you prefer a rarer steak, let your steak rests while you cook your shrimp.
- In the same pan that you cooked the steak, add 2 tbsp of butter and melt
- Pat your shrimp dry and season with salt, pepper, paprika and cajun seasoning
- Add shrimp to the pan, and saute for 3-4 minutes or until shrimp is fully cooked
- Pour shrimp on top of cooked steak, allowing excess juices to top your plate.
