Tips for making the perfect Gyro

  1. Marinate your meat- The longer you marinate your meat, the better. Marinating your meat for at least 30 minutes and up to overnight will guarantee a moist, juicy, flavorful chicken.
  2. The more spices, the better-This recipe is about building flavor. Try to use all of the spices listed for optimal results.

Ingredients 

  • 3 lbs chicken breast sliced thin
  • 6 oz Greek Yogurt
  • 2 tbsps olive oil
  • 2 tbsps paprika
  • 2 tsps salt
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp herbs
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 tsp dried herbs
  • 1 tsp Sazon (optional)
  • juice of 1/2 lemon

For the Tzatiki Sauce

  • 1.5 cup Yogurt
  • 2 garlic cloves grated
  • 1 cucumer grated
  • 2 tbsps dill finely chopped
  • 2 tbsps olive oil
  • 1 tbsps mint
  • 2 tsps salt
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

Other Ingredients

  • pita bread
  • 1 red onion sliced thin
  • 2 tomatoes sliced thin
  • potatoes

Instructions 

  1. Start by marinating sliced chicken breasts with spices and yogurt. Set aside for 10 minutes up until an hour.
  2. To prepare the shawarma skewer, place half an onion (flat side down) on a baking sheet and press two skewers on opposite sides into the onion. Layer the pieces of chicken on the skewer.
  3. Bake Chicken skewers at 350 degrees for 20-30 minutes or until chicken is fully cooked.
  4. While chicken is cooking, mix all of your ingredients together for your tzakini sauce and chill in the refrigerator.
  5. air fry, deep fry or bake your fries.
  6. Slice your tomatoes, and onions.
  7. Assemble your gyro. Toast your pita bread in the oven for 2-3 minutes. Smear a thin layer of tzatziki on the pita bread, add tomatoes, onions, chicken, top with fries, serve and fold!
