My Surf and Turf TikTok video went viral THREE YEARS IN A ROW! Even Snoop Dogg posted @themoodyfoody Surf and Turf on his Instagram page! So, I am the Surf and Turf Expert. Steakhouses are overpriced and outdated, and I’ve always been a fan of intimate moments!

Tips for making the perfect Steak:

  • Use high-quality ingredientsโ€“ This is the time to invest. If possible, get an excellent cut of Steak. I recommend N.Y. Strip, Sirloin bone in, or even T-bone or powerhouse. You want a perfect high-quality steak to soak in the flavor. Additionally, good salted butter is necessary; I recommend Kerigold butter because it’s rich in flavor!
  • Use the proper cooking equipment- I highly recommend a cast iron skillet for this recipe. I insist. A cast iron skillet is an evergreen kitchen staple and creates the perfect sear on the steaks, making the Surf N Turf restaurant quality. 
  • High Heat- Getting a nice sear on the Steak is half of this recipe. Not only do you want fantastic flavor, but you also want a piece of meat that says- “DAMN”.! Don’t shy away from the heat in this recipe; it’s your friend! 
  • Take your timeโ€“ This recipe requires finesse; if you follow the instructions carefully, you’ll have a fantastic meal and become a better home cook almost immediately. Making the perfect Steak is a mandatory skill in being an expert cook, and this Surf and Turf Recipe is a great way to jump in head first.

Equipment

  • 1 Cast Iron Skillet

Ingredients
  

  • 2 Steaks I like to use Ribeye or NY Strip
  • 1 tbsp Avocado Oil Or, any high heat cooking oil
  • 6 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 8 cloves garlic
  • 6 sprigs rosemary
  • salt and pepper to taste

For the Mashed Potatoes

  • 3 lbs Red Potatoes
  • 1 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 8 tbsps butter
  • 1 cup Parmesan cheese
  • 3 tsps salt
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 2 tsps garlic powder
  • 2 tsps onion powder

For the Creamy Shrimp

  • 1 lb Shrimp I like to use Jumbo Shrimp! 13-15 for best results!
  • 1 cup Heavy cream
  • 3 tbsps Butter
  • 2 tbsps Parsley

Instructions
 

  • Allow steaks to rest at room temperature for 20 minutes. While steaks are resting, make your cajun compound butter.
  • Season steak with salt and pepper completely. Your steaks should be seasoned very well! Let them rest for 10 minutes
  • Add avocado oil and 2 tbsps of butter to a hot cast iron skillet.
  • Sear Steak for 2 minutes, and flip. Your steak should be be beautifully seared.
  • Add additional 2 tbsp of butter, garlic and rosemary, and bask the excess butter over the steak with a spoon. Keep basking continously for 3-5 minutes.
  • *optional step* Remove from pan and finish cooking in the oven at 375 degrees until the level of doneness required. Use a thermometer to test the level of doneless If you prefer a rarer steak, let your steak rests while you cook your shrimp.

For The Mashed Potatoes

  • Cut potatoes into fours, boil.
  • In a small sauce pot, bring butter, spices, heavy cream and Parmesan cheese to a light boil.
  • Once potatoes are soft, strain them and slowly add in milk mixture while simantousely mashing the potatoes until you have a creamy consistency.
  • Garnish with parsley

For the Shrimp

  • Pat dry shrimp. Sautee shrimp on medium heat in butter for 2-3 minutes.
  • Add in heavy cream, parmesean cheese and parsley. Simmer on low heat until shrimp is fully cooked and sauce is thickened.
